Rustic Meets Modern: Chicago Writer’s Theatre
We’ve all seen the pinterest boards, the magazine covers, the home tv shows – rustic is in. From reclaimed wood, sliding barn doors and exposed beams, there’s no shortage for inspiration when it comes to incorporating rustic touches into modern households. But where does the trend take you in the commercial world? Check out the new home of the Chicago Writer’s Theatre. This new building mimics it’s surroundings by bringing the natural elements in. With an exterior glass wall accented with suspended wood beams, theatre-goers and workshop participants are exposed to the unique blend of rustic modernity.
Of course, I have to confess this building is of particular interest to me as my brother – a passionate timber-framer, helped work on the project. The building was designed by Studio Gang architects, a Chicago-based firm.
